Guys, seriously, this is the worst joke of a 'business', all the below, I got it in three occasions. (Yes, I was stupid enough to be seduced by the great location.) On the first occasion, they actually told us they have no wine. I mean, come on, a restaurant don't have a single bottle of wine? Yes, not one pathetic bottle of wine. No, not even the breakfast, they screwed that up as well. Nope, absolutely no breakfast after the 45 minutes wait for a coffee and juice that they told us, no, no breakfast for you. And a waiter that thinks telling us he is not happy that we insist on getting happy hours price because HE was the one that told us it's happy hours and later decide the happy time is over when the bill arrives. Shocking, this joint. Heard it's being 'revamped' at the moment. What a joke.

It is not usually our style to complain, but after the food we received on Saturday evening 8 Sept 2012, We were dining at the Cafe Sofia branches at Eden on the bay. We were looking forward to the menu which looked so enticing and especially to treating ourselves to seafood. However turned out to be the worst experience ever, food wise. We started the evening off with sushi, which we bear, even though the rice was a bit soggy. We blamed it on inexperience since it seems like the sushi bar was a new feature. Little did we know that that was only the beginning.... To our disappointment the waiter informed us that they had no seafood stock. So anything on the menu which contained seafood ingredient was not available. Also to our disappointment it included anything that contained jalapenos. This limited our options considerably, as that was the main reason for us driving out all the way to the beach front. Determined that this must not spoil our evening, we tried to choose something else on the menu...We decided to take the combination of samples. After finally finding at least four which suited our taste and did not contain any seafood or jalapenos. The lamb bourek;which was described as Crispy pastry filled with spicy grilled lamb, raisin and mint; Was nothing more than a bland spring-roll with meat. The Haloumi Frito was so drenched in oil and the Haloumi started to disintegrate, in the end you couldn’t really taste the Haloumi. It completely spoiled the Haloumi and never mind our appetite. Salchichitas; was described as pan grilled baby sausages, sautéed in chimchuri salsa. Baby sausages it was indeed! We looked forwarded to the sautéed in chimchuri salsa. All we could figure out was that it was pan fried in oil, and the blob of green was supposed to be the sautéed chimchuri salsa... All this we could still bear.... Until we saw the Pan Con Jamon Y Queso; described as Bruschetta topped with Jamon Serrano, cheese and balsamic honey reduction. What we got was brown bread with sandwich ham and grated cheese, and a dash of balsamic vinegar.... We were not in the mood to make a scène as we came to have a pleasant evening and actually enjoyed our cocktails so we decided to eat the food. Also to scared that if we complained that they would try and make up for it by giving something else on the menu...and who knows what that would turn out to be. Just when we though the night can’t get any worse, we finally asked for the bill. The poor waiter had to tell us that they were also out of paper for the till...so they could only print half of the bill. We found it so ridiculous that I even went to the trouble of taking pictures (And just when one do think now you have seen it all, one of the kitchen staff comes and light (in front of all the guests, not even trying to hide what he is doing) his sigarette on the element of the counter where they place the food to stay warm before a waiter can take it to the tables. Needless to say, by then we couldn’t wait to get out of there. We would have expected that a restaurant situated on the beach front and with the prices they charged that they would at least have decent stock. It was seven O’clock on a Saturday evening in September , and they have no seafood stock!

Absolute worst dining out experience at Cafe Sofia today.Already aware of the shocking service, today was a new low. After seating ourselves a glass of wine, lime & soda and 1 cocktail took at least 20min to arrive. Then our simple order of one Gourmet Flatbread and 8 Tapas Samples took 55min to arrive!! With us seeing very little food leaving the kitchen in the meantime. The Gourment Flatbread that arrived was a drenched-in-cheese fastfood looking pizza, on what the manager later admitted was a shop-bought pizza base. The Tapas, which we have enjoyed in the past, was bland and unappealing. We ended up eating because we were just so hungry. After seeing no manager in sight during the course of our meal, when we finally managed to locate the manager he didn't seem to phased by our terrible experience . Love the location, but NEVER again!

Have just received the worst service experience here ever!!! My wife and i placed a breakfast order with the "manager" Pat Sol who immediately advises that our order would take at least 20 mins and I say it's ok and that we'll come back in 30 mins to allow them time to prepare. On our return 45 mins(clearly enough time to cater for any capacity issues), he says that he did not place our order as he knew when we left that his kitchen would not accommodate us. The worst is that he was not apologetic for this and was too happy to see us leave!

Breakfast at Cafe Sofia has got to be the only thing that they get right!! Never had a problem with their breakfast special. However, last Saturday, waited for an hour for 3 cups of coffee... after asking waiter twice when our coffee was coming. Left, without the coffee, and went to Kauai - instant, friendly service.

I have experienced exactly the same at the Cavendish and Kloof Street branches. They are terrible. Want to give no stars but you have to give at least 1!

I don't know what it is about this place - but they just cannot get it right! We live in Blouberg, and so are at Eden often. The service at Cafe Sofia is sooooo slow - we waited for a cappuccino for over 20 minutes and eventually left. We went for dinner a few weeks ago, and about 20 minutes after placing my order, was informed that there was no chicken!!! Just crap service, and complaints never taken seriously. Everyone is busy, and yet it doesn't take over an hour to get food out of the kitchen. Only plus - the cocktails are good.

I was at the Big Bay Beach Bar branch over the weekend for lunch and the service was some of the worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. Service was slow, the hostess was a mute, the waitress was a phantom and when I tried to find a manager I couldn't. At the end of the lunch when I did find a manager (I think he was a manager) he barely spoke and when he left to fetch a card I left before he came back as he took forever. A bunch of small things that made the experience crap. Won't be coming back. The place needs better management and the management needs to train its staff. Oh, and the staff where barely around because they were inside watching TV.
