We recently visited this restaurant and were totally not impressed. They have made subtle improvements in the hope of goign upmarket. but what is the point when the food you order is bland and the meat not up to scratch. The rump I ordered was not trimmed of the fat properly and was a waste of money if one takes into consideration the amount of actual meat, not fat! My wife ordered the schnitzel and she say it reminded her of the meals at boarding school. As for the side vegtebles, very bland and tasteless. Maybe the chef doesnt know what seasoning is. Very disappointed and wont be going back!

Barristers are coming to the end of a traumatic revamp and old diners will be delighted with the changes giving a classy air to the premises. The new entrance is quite stunning...a beautiful, mosaic, patchwork tiled Victorian floor on the widened corridor leads to the new entrance of the Grill Room itself. However the main change is to the toilets ... now spacious, classy, spotlessly clean as opposed to the old ones which left a lot to be desired. The new menu is clearly set out and the dishes we have sampled so far have left only admiration and joy on one's palate. The new thick Roquefort dressing on this Salad is DELICIOUS and we find that sharing a STARTER portion is ample enough. The Grilled Lamb Chops are succulent and the medium ones requested were mouth watering with crisp, juicy fat and the tastiest and tenderest Lamb eaten in many a month. The Portuguese style cubed Rumpsteak (Espetada) is not only a showstopper but most flavoursome, tender with a generous amount of garlic butter running down the hung skewer. However, it is the extremely well-trained staff that puts Barristers into a class of their own. Smartly dressed in black, always busy, smiling and attentive (using their eyes and ears all the time)they are a credit to the establishment...in particular one MAUREEN now into her sixth year with the business. The new wine-list is reasonably priced and contains many new Estates unknown to me with crisp, clear explanations about each wine. The new embossed linen cloths and napkins add just that finishing classy touch to the restaurant. I am sure your visit will be both enjoyable and memorable !! John J. Great vibe on a Sunday afternoon to go and enjoy a quiet drink, especially given the great weather in Cape Town of late. Great value for money, great crowd.

We really enjoyed the Wine evening last night. Well done to Elize and the staff. Food was fantastic and the Boland Organic white was an excellent choice.

Took 2 business colleagues for lunch last Thurs. Second time in 2 weeks. Sirloin steaks were among the best that I have had. The waiter was efficient and had an extensive knowledge of the menu and the preparation of the meals.

We had to wait for our friends to arrive for dinner and decided to have a drink at the bar, it was a very relaxed atmosphere and all the waiters were very friendly. It is amazing how the atmosphere changes from relaxed to just a little bit more formal when you sit down for dinner. The service was excellent and the food was even better. I was already full but couldn't stop eating it was so good. I was very impressed by this establishment and although I live in Durbanville, I will make an extra effort to go and eat at Barristers again.

Hail Barristers and Secretaries Day! I was thoroughly spoiled yesterday by a few members of my team. I ordered fillet (medium rare) with chips on the side - simple, but positively delicious. My knife melted through my prepared to perfection steak which was accompanied by a delicious glass or two of one of the finest sauvignon blancs in my book, Groot Constantia. Barristers boasts an extremely impressive wine list and much to my pleasant surprise I discovered that they stock another firm favourite of mine, the Hermanuspietersfontein Bloos. All in all guys thanks and well done, I will definitely be paying more regular visits to your establishment.

I had dinner last night at Barristers in Newlands. Our waiter, Bert was extremely helpful and honest regarding the availability of fresh fish. When I enquired as to whether they had fresh Kob, he mentioned that it had arrived the previous day and that it might be a little dry. At his recommendation I ordered a sirloin steak. If there was ever a perfect sirloin then this was it! it arrived as I ordered it, medium rare with chips and onion rings. The chips were crisp and unlike so many establishments, was not laden with oil. The side order of onion rings was excellent and had been cooked in a light crispy batter. The inside was firm and the outside crunchy as they should be. The Bearnaise sauce however was the only slight blemish on a perfect meal and evening. It was tasty and creamy but served at room temperature. It definitely wasn't Bernaise as it was too runny and lacked the tarragon flavour that separates it from Hollandaise. However, well done Barristers!

While not the cheapest of steak houses I got more then I expected. Succulant meat and a traditional yet innovative menu. Love the chicken lovers with coconut milk and my steak was done to perfection! The service was quick and friendly and I will be back for sure!

Karibu "Karibu is one of my favourite restaurants to pop in for a dinner that never disappoints. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed with a distinct South African feel that's both elegant and upmarket. The service is friendly and efficient - I always rely on the manager (Bruce) for meal recommendations which thus far has been spot-on, yet I'm sure the menu as a whole is good......"
