Three Wise Monkeys, Sea Point
Due to open officially Friday 12 August 2016, Three Wise Monkeys is an izakaya and ramen restaurant that takes things back to the underground restaurant scene you'd find in big cities like New York or Tokyo. The dark, edgy setting offers traditional poké bowls, ramen, sushi and bao.
This one has already become a favourite amongst all the regulars of sushi chef Papa San's previous restaurant Takumi. The menu has many of the old favourites on it with added ramen and udon noodle options. Expect fresh quality fish and those giant sushi rolls.
Banks Burger, Newlands
Another gourmet fast food burger joint has hit the scene, this time on Dean Street in Newlands. A clean, minimalist, retro interior, and a kitchen churning out burgers made from scratch. Syriana, Sea Point
Syriana serves authentic Middle Eastern cuisine. The owners started with a food truck which proved to be exceedingly popular, and recently opened a fully fledged restaurant. You'll find vegan falafel balls, Zataar manouche and hookah pipes to add to the whole Arabian experience.
Open Wine, CBD
Taking over the old Isola spot, is Open Wine, fully dedicated to a food and wine pairing experience. The Italian-themed menu changes daily, bringing with it a new pairing of carefully selected wine. The owners are passionate about wine and are offering a unique concept to the Cape Town restaurant scene.
Selva, Craighall Park
Selva is an elegant deep blue space inspired by Lisbon's sea and cuisine. You'll find incredibly flavoured sea food, cod croquettes, prego and lots of Peri Peri. Its another stylish, unique restaurant from the guys behind Warm & Glad. Follow them on Instagram here.
Momo Baohaus, Greenside
Taking the best flavours from Asia and condensing them into their dishes, Momo serves bao, sushi, rice bowls and other interesting dishes like the crispy tofu and salmon ceviche tacos. The quality of their food along with the bold flavouring will have you salivating.
Glenda's, Hyde Park
Glenda's is a beautiful, quirky space with an elegant feel serving café and deli dishes. They give their own twist on modern comfort food and are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bar is exquisite, and well-worth a visit for cocktails. They also have a buffet lunch spread and delicious freshly baked cakes and patisserie.
The restaurant that everyone has been waiting for is opening on 16 August! David Higgs, top SA chef, is set to open his fire-themed restaurant next week to much anticipation. If his previous work is anything to go by, we can expect exceptional fine-dining, prepared with passion and creativity. The restaurant will have a South African theme with a meat focused menu, cooked over an open flame. We're excited!
The Bar at The Cosmopolitan (and Cube Tasting Kitchen coming soon), Maboneng
Set inside the beautiful and historic Cosmopolitan Hotel building in the Maboneng Precinct, Chef Dario De Angeli takes over the revived complex's bar and restaurant. The hotel has been converted into a retail/leisure/gallery space. The Bar has officially opened and does serve food, but Cube Tasting Room is set to open in September as the Cosmopolitan's signature restaurant. Those familiar with the Parktown North Branch, will know to expect impressive and inventive fine-dining dishes. Have a look at the restaurant's Instagram account for a clue on things to come.
The Shed, Ballito
Situated at the Litchi Orchard in Salt Rock, The Shed serves classic American-style bar food including ribs, pulled pork, burgers and pizzas. Its a great place for families or friend groups to enjoy lunch in the day. They have a wide variety of draught beers and TVs for sport.
The Prep Room, Glenwood
Set on a large property with lush green grass and a huge play area for children, Prep Room has expansive outdoor seating with café-style food. The restaurant space is designed within three containers which create both exterior and interior areas for seating. Its an ideal spot if you're looking for a relaxed dinner or lunch for a big group.

The Fliserei Bistro, Centurion
This spot is ideal for family with a big and well-kitted-out play area for children. The area is closed off as well, so parents can relax while the kids do there thing. The menu is very extensive with everything from burgers to wraps to chicken wings and more. They also serve milkshakes and have a kids menu.
Chefs @ 566, Garsfontein
Chef Brett Ladds, who once was Nelson Mandela's chef, heads up this new fine dining restaurant. He's considered a celebrity chef, having cooked for some famous faces like Naomi Cambell and even the Queen. He draws inspiration from his travels, so you'll see his own interpretation of French, British and Italian cuisine. Keep and eye on Chefs @ 566 Facebook for the changing chalk board.
Twin brothers Jonathon and Nic along with their other brother Tim, opened this relaxed gastro pub and beer house in July. The twins both come from previous restaurant ownership, and their restaurants (Two Olives and The Chartroom) are currently prominent fixtures in the Eastern Cape area. Expect a proper British-style pub with gourmet pub food, a large outdoor seating area, and on occasion, live music.
Backstreet Grill, Richmond Hill
Opening in March, Backstreet Grill is a quality steakhouse with an old school, 60s jazz era feel. They serve a variety of different cuts like kudu and have become a steakhouse staple among the locals.
