Despite the dodgy reviews, we thought we'd give this a try and were suprised. The food was excellent - Caesar Salad tasty and the right size, followed by really excellent Ostrich burgers. Our service was great - attentive but not intrusive and the food came quickly.
It does suffer from being a hotel restaurant - it doesn't feel intimate, and the very bright lighting made the candles on the tables fairly pointless.
I would definitely go back and would recommend it, but only during the day.

Average at best. Having read one mediocre review, we rather hoped that was the exception, but it seems to be the rule. The place was mostly empty, the chef only had one order to cope with and yet it was still mixed up. Service was intermittent and the general ambiance was lacklustre. In the same week, we were told by friends that the Showroom restaurant had gone downhill, we suffered the cafe. If Bruce Robertson can't train staff, then he needs to stick to dishing up himself. We've had the pleasure of enjoying many dishes at the Showroom restaurant and hope this is just a temporary blip on a fantastic record.

The food was quite nice but the service was slow and it took nearly an hour for our food to come (the restaurant was not even half full). I don't understand why untrained staff are allowed to serve tables.
