Transkaroo's Reviews

1 On our last trip down the Garden Route, unexpected car trouble forced us to stay in Great Brak River. We were frustrated and annoyed that our whole schedule would be thrown out, when someone at the B&B where we were staying recommended the local Transkaroo restaurant for something to eat. We are busy planning another trip along the Garden Route and have now included Great Brak River as a definite stop. There's no way we're missing out on food like that! Thanks for a great time, we're looking forward to more. See you in June. Helen

2 As a special treat, I kidnapped my parents for lunch at Transkaroo on Mothers' Day. (I warned them to leave plenty of space for desert - thanks guys) It was probably the best meal I've shared with my parents in decades. The Salmon twirl was spectacular - and I've never heard my Dad rave about a salad the way he did yesterday. For mains Mom had the Springbok Pot Pie (we're not sure Alana ate at the same restaurant) - it was orgasmic! Not to mention the deserts. We had the Lemon Cheese cake, the Malva pudding and a Death By Chocolate - and though we didn't die, we were most definitely in culinary heaven. Well done to Transkaroo for an all-over magical experience. Count this family as friends and converts.

3 Awesome setting, vibe and service, and unbelievable food. I had fish and the hubby enjoyed the Signature dish. I didn't leave enough space for dessert but had to have the Creme Brulee....it was the smoothest I've ever tasted. Truly a great experience and definitely a stop over on our next trip.

4 Funny, but our party is always the last to leave the restuarant ... The most memorable comment last night was from Paul, who knows his food but is not much given to fulsome blethering about it: "This is the most tender lamb I've ever eaten - it's actually a bit disconcerting ...". Bravo Transkaroo, you are an oasis in a restaurant wilderness.

5 What a fantastic restaurant. I stopped at the Transkaroo while on holiday in the Garden Route and have changed my July vacation plans to factor in another visit to this culinary delight. I couldn't decide between the signature lamb and the springbok pie so my partner and I decided to share them. Both were the best I have ever had. I was so impressed with the meal that I asked the waiter to pass on my compliments to the chef. To my delight, the chef joined our table to chat about the meal. How is that for service! I know its hard, but try leave room for dessert. Well done guys.

6 Saturday the 3rd of May: The food started of OK with the butternut soup, from there the experience left a lot to be desired. The two Springbok pot pies we was so peppery that it was just OK eat, but bad enough to definitely not want more! The only explanation the chef offered was that the recipe has been adjusted with cayenne pepper. I have and do eat out a lot in my life, but never before have I had a venison pie that tasted like this, it is suppose to be rich and full of complex flavors, not this peppery stew that tries its best to ruin and disguise the taste of the ingredients!
My mother ordered the 'Transkaroo', the signature dish, and received a lamb neck that had salt and pepper on it, but nothing else in term of flavor .. you would really expect that if you make a dish the signature of you restaurant it should be something extraordinary? The last dish ordered was the pork belly and the person eating it only had one thing to say namely 'Horrible'.

7 So. We'd tried everything that Mossel Bay had to offer. There was nowhere else to go, so off to Grootbrak we went, expectations at an all time low. The greeting was friendly. The service was slick. The food was exceedingly yummy. When there's nowhere else to go, go Transkaroo!
