Pastis Brasserie's Reviews

This is a great little French bistro with great food. Last night I ordered seared tuna served with asparagus and a beurre blanc sauce - honestly I said yum about 20 times, it was a delight. Hubby ordered fillet au poivre served with vichy carrots and mash, which one of us has each time we go there. Love the place. Service not always great, management not hands-on at all. Last night no manager even there. But the food always brings us back.

I promised not to return to this restaurant after my last experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Having heard a lot of praise recently for the improvement of the food and service, my wife convinced me to try again... Very glad I did! This is the Pastis I remember 2 or 3 years ago. The food was magnificent, every last morsel. My lemon tart was the best I've had and as for my entrecote Bearnaise, the most well aged tender piece of beef for years, I believe that the chef will not serve the entrecote if the meat is not aged to his satisfaction. Well done sir! A quality visit, will be back.

Went to Pastis on Monday night and I have to say that it felt very 'public holiday so B-team in charge.' Service not great - asked three times for lemon in my water and four times for bread which seemed to be a problem for the waitress as if she thought we weren't going to order food but were only going to eat bread perhaps? Only after our order had been taken did the the waitress come back and tell us that two of the dishes were unavailable - I don't mind things being out of stock after a busy public holiday weekend but I do expect the waitress to advise us at least at the time of ordering. Starters - small but tasty. Main courses - just took forever and by the time they arrived, I hadn't the heart to send back the well done steak which arrived instead of the rare one I had ordered. Incredibly oily prawns on my mother-in-laws dish made all her chips inedible and for some strange reason, the manager appeared halfway through her meal with an additional and entirely unnecessary 4 prawns - bizarre. It was one of those niggly nights where nothing was so horrendously wrong that you want to walk out, but nothing, frankly, was right enough to tempt me back again for a very long time. Shame really as it is a lovely venue.

Have been several times. Wonderful to sit and watch the world go by. Food generally good, but have found that certain menu items are often not available. Still, a good call if you want to sit and relax and have a good meal.
