White sauce

  • 40
    g
    butter
  • 40
    g
    flour
  • 600
    ml
    hot milk
  • salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
 

Method

 
Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Sprinkle in the flour. Whisk for 1 minute, then remove from the heat. You have now formed a roux. Gradually whisk in the milk. Return to the heat and continue to whisk until sauce thickens and begins to boil. Whisk until smooth, then season according to your recipe with salt, pepper, mustard or nutmeg. Makes: ± 600ml
