Method

 
1. Sift flours, baking powder, sugar and salt into a bowl, then rub in the butter. 2. Stir in wholewheat flour and enough milk to make a soft dough. 3. Knead dough on a floured surface until smooth. Divide mixture into 12 portions. Knead each portion until smooth. 4. Place 1 roll in centre and 5 rolls almost touching around outside on 2 lightly greased baking trays. Brush rolls with combined egg yolk and 15 ml of the milk. Sprinkle rolls with toppings, not repeating a topping on the same tray. Bake in a moderately hot oven at 200 ºC for about 20 minutes or until browned and sound hollow when tapped. Serve with butter.
