Tomato sauce for hamburgers

    onions, chopped
  • 2
    cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1
    green pepper, seeded and diced
  • 100

    fresh button mushrooms, sliced
  • 10
    ml
    butter
  • 10
    ml
    oil
  • 400
    g
    whole tomatoes, chopped
  • 5
    ml
    dried or 15 ml chopped origanum
  • 10
    ml
    brown sugar
  • 5
    ml
    salt
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2
    ml
    chilli sauce (optional)
 

Method

15-20 min
 
Sauté the chopped onion, garlic, green pepper and mushrooms in the heated butter and cooking oil until the onion is soft. Add the chopped tomato and simmer for about 15 minutes or until the sauce forms a purée. Season with the remaining ingredients. Pour the sauce over the hamburger patties. Serves 6.
