Ingredients (17)

FIRST LAYER
250.00 ml oats
125.00 ml flour
125.00 ml brown sugar
2.00 ml Bicarbonate of soda
60.00 ml butter — melted
SECOND LAYER
190.00 ml castor sugar
60.00 ml butter — melted
50.00 ml cocoa powder
1.00 eggs — lightly beaten
180.00 ml flour — plain
3.00 ml Baking powder
60.00 ml milk
3.00 ml vanilla — essence
125.00 ml walnuts — chopped
THIRD LAYER
250.00 ml icing sugar
45.00 ml cocoa powder
water — hot

Method:

FIRST LAYER
Place oats, flour, sugar and bicarbonate of soda in a mixing bowl, stir in melted butter and mix well.
Press into a greased 26 x 22 cm baking tray.
Bake at 180 ºC for 10 minutes. Remove from oven, and cool in tray.
SECOND LAYER
Combine sugar, butter, cocoa, and egg in a mixing bowl, beat well. Sift in flour and baking powder.
Combine milk and vanilla in a measuring jug. Add to the sugar mixture along with the chopped nuts and mix well.
Spread mixture over first layer, and bake at 180 ºC for 25 minutes.
Remove from oven and cool.
THIRD LAYER
Sift icing sugar and cocoa into a bowl, add enough water to make thin icing.
Pour over biscuits, and cut into squares when set.
