Sylvia's chutney

    g
    dates
  • 650
    g
    chopped onion
  • 1
    kg
    chopped tomatoes
  • 10
    large chillies or to taste
  • 350
    ml
    grape vinegar
  • 10
    ml
    curry powder
  • 900
    g
    smooth apricot jam
 

Method

 
Cut the dates into little pieces. Mince the onion, tomatoes and chillies together in a food processor. Pour the mixture into a heavy-based pot. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix. Cook over a moderate temperature without a lid until the chutney has the right consistency. Test by allowing a small amount of the chutney to cool in a saucer in the refrigerator. Cool the chutney and pour into sterilised jars and seal. Makes about 2,5 litres of chutney.
