Sweet and sour sauce

    carrots, cut into strips
  • 1
    green pepper, diced
  • cucumber, diced
  • oil
  • 250
    ml
    brown grape vinegar
  • 100
    ml
    boiling water
  • 200
    g
    sugar
  • 15
    ml
    brandy
  • 15
    ml
    cornflour
 

Method

 
Sauté the vegetables in a little oil until soft. Add the grape vinegar, boiling water and sugar and stir continuously until the sugar has dissolved. Add the brandy and simmer for about 2 minutes. Blend the cornflour with a little water to form a smooth paste, add to the sauce and stir until the sauce comes to the boil and thickens. Makes about 400 ml sauce.
