    margarine

    extra-large egg

Method

 
Preheat the oven to 200 ºC (400 ºF). Sift the cake flour, baking powder, sugar and salt together in a mixing bowl. Rub in the margarine until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Whisk the egg and milk together and add just enough of the egg mixture to the flour mixture to form a fairly stiff dough. Mix gently with a spatula. Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and gently roll out until about 2 cm thick. Cut out round scones with a biscuit cutter. Place on a greased baking sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown and baked through. Makes 15 scones.
