Succulent savoury mince

    onion, finely chopped

    mince
  • 400

    whole tomatoes, finely chopped

    Worcestershire sauce
  • 5

    dried basil or chopped basil
  • 5
    ml
    fresh rosemary
  • 25
    ml
    chutney
  • 250
    ml
    meat stock
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 10
    ml
    cornflour
  • 10
    ml
    gravy powder such as Bisto
  • 25
    ml
    cold water
 

Method

 
Fry the bacon until done. Chop finely and set aside. Pour a little oil in a pan and fry the onion until tender and translucent. Add the mince and fry until done. Return the bacon to the pan and add the tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, herbs, chutney and stock. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 20 minutes until thick. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Blend the cornflour, gravy powder and water to form a smooth paste. Add to the meat mixture and simmer until it thickens slightly. Serve with pasta and a salad.
