Steamed syrup pudding

    brown sugar

    evaporated milk

    butter, melted

    self-raising flour

    bicarbonate of soda
  • SAUCE
  • 45
    ml
    golden syrup
  • 30
    ml
    butter
 

Method

 
Line an 18 cm bamboo steamer with greaseproof paper.
Place the eggs and sugar in a bowl, and beat for about five minutes with an electric beater, until thick.
Add the milk and melted and stir well.
Fold in the flour and bicarb.
Pour this mixture into the steamer, cover with the lid, and place it over a pot of already boiling water; cook over high heat for 20 minutes. Remove from the heat.
SAUCE:
Melt the golden syrup and butter together, and pour this mixture over the hot pudding.
Serve warm, with custard.
