Steak with mushroom and mustard seed topping

  • 4
    steaks of your choice
  • milled pepper
  • TOPPING
  • olive oil for frying
  • 15
    ml
    yellow mustard seeds
  • 1
    large red or green sweet pepper, seeded and cut into chunks
  • 250
    g
    fresh black mushrooms, thickly sliced
  • 5
    ml
    chicken or vegetable stock powder
  • 100
    ml
    white wine, if needed
  • salt and milled pepper to taste
 

Method

 
Wipe steaks with a damp cloth and season liberally with pepper. Set aside. TOPPING: Heat oil, add mustard seeds and when they begin to pop, add peppers. Stir-fry for about 2 minutes. Add mushrooms and stock powder and continue to stir-fry for 4 to 5 minutes. Add a little white wine if vegetables start to stick. Meanwhile, fry or grill steaks until done to taste. Season topping and spoon over steaks, or serve as an accompaniment.
