Sesame seed scones

    self-raising flour

    salt

    sugar

    sesame seeds

    soft butter
  • 1
    egg, lightly whisked
  • 125

    sour cream
  • whisked egg yolk and extra sesame seeds for sprinkling on top
 

Method

 
Preheat the oven to 200 ºC (400 ºF). Spray a baking sheet with non-stick spray. Sift the self-raising flour and salt together. Add the sugar and sesame seeds and mix lightly. Grate in the butter and rub in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add the whisked egg and sour cream and mix lightly with a spatula until just blended. On a lightly floured surface roll out the dough until 2,5 cm thick. Cut out circles 6-7 cm in diameter and place on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with egg yolk and sprinkle with extra sesame seeds. Bake for 20 minutes or until done and golden brown on top. Makes 12-15 scones.
