Scrumptious chakalaka bread

  • 500
    cake flour (920 ml)
  • 10
    baking powder
  • 4
    large eggs, beaten
  • 125
    grated Cheddar cheese
  • 1
    can mild chakalaka
  • about 100ml milk
  • selection of cheeses, pâtés and fruit to serve with the bread



Oven temperature: 180°C

Sift the flour, baking powder and 5ml salt together. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Add a little more milk, if necessary.
Spoon into a greased loaf tin and bake in a preheated oven for 45 minutes or until a skewer inserted comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack and serve the sliced bread with a selection of different pâtés, cheeses and fruit.
