Scottish mince

  • 1
    kg
    steak mince
  • 2
    onions, finely grated
  • 2
    carrots, sliced into rings
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 5
    ml
    cornflour
  • 250
    ml
    frozen peas
 

Method

 
Brown meat and onion in a saucepan (the mince will provide sufficient fat).
Add carrots, salt and pepper, and enough water to cover.
Simmer for 1 hour.
Thicken gravy with cornflour.
A few minutes before serving, add frozen peas.
NOTE:
Alternatively, add 65 g tomato paste, 5 ml sugar and the juice of 1 lemon (optional).
