Savoury mince bun

    oil
  • 500
    g
    lean beef mince
  • 1
    onion, finely chopped
  • 1
    green pepper, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1
    large, brown flat mushroom, chopped
  • 250
    g
    tomato purée
  • 60
    ml
    beef stock
  • 5
    ml
    English mustard
  • 15
    ml
    Worcestershire sauce
  • 5
    ml
    barbecue spice
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 4
    hamburger buns, toasted
 

Method

30 minutes
 
1. Heat the oil in a large saucepan and add the mince. Cook until the mince changes colour, breaking up the pieces with the back of a slotted spoon. 2. Add the onion and green pepper and cook, stirring, until vegetables are softened. 3. Add the mushroom and cook for 3 minutes. 4. Add the tomato purée, beef stock, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and barbecue spice. 5. Gently bring to the boil, then turn down to a slow simmer and cook, covered, for 30 minutes. Add seasoning and serve hot on toasted hamburger buns.
