Savoury apple & nut loaf

Ingredients

  • 500
    g
    instant wholewheat bread mix
  • 1
    Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored and cubed
  • 50
    ml
    pecan nuts, chopped
  • 125
    ml
    mature Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1
    small onion, finely chopped
  • 500
    ml
    buttermilk
  • 1
    large egg
 

Method

1 hour
 
1 Place the bread mix in a large bowl. Mix in the apple, nuts, cheese and onion. 2 Whisk together the buttermilk and egg. Add to the dry ingredients and mix for about 5 minutes until ingredients are well combined. 3 Spoon into a greased and lined loaf tin and decorate the top with extra pecan nuts if desired. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 ºC for 1 hour, or until cooked through. Turn on to a wire rack to cool. Serve sliced to accompany saucy stews or bredies. Makes: 1 large loaf Preparation time: 15 minutes Baking time: 1 hour Oven temperature: 180 ºC
