    beef braising steak, cut into squares

    sunflower oil

    beef stock
  • 400

    chopped tomatoes

    red wine

    tomato purée

    Worcestershire sauce

    turnip, peeled and cubed

    picking onions, peeled
  • 2
    leeks, washed and sliced

    carrots, peeled and sliced
 

Method

2 hours 30 min
 
Put gravy powder, flour and paprika in a large, shallow dish and season generously. Add meat and toss to coat well. Heat oil in a large saucepan, add beef and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned. Add beef stock, tomatoes, red wine, tomato purée and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to the boil, then reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 1 hour. Add turnip, onions, leeks and carrots and continue to simmer for 1 1/2 hours, or until meat is tender. Serves 8.
