Ingredients (12)

15.00 ml sunflower oil
75.00 g red onion — chopped
400.00 g cabbage — red, shredded
250.00 g green apples — peeled, cored, cubed
75.00 g beetroot — peeled, cubed
0.50 lemon lemon — juice only
60.00 ml vinegar — red wine
125.00 ml wine — red
45.00 ml sugar
1.00 stick cinnamon — ground
1.00 garlic — clove
1.00 bay leaves

Method:

1. Heat the oil in a saucepan over a medium to high
heat. Add the onion and fry for two or three minutes
until soft, but not yet browned.

2. Add the cabbage, apple and beetroot and stir
well. Add the lemon juice, vinegar and wine, and
stir well.

3. Add the sugar and spices, as well as salt and
freshly ground pepper to taste. Cover and cook for
approximately one hour.

4. Remove the clove, cinnamon stick and bay leaf and serve as a side dish.
