    large French loaf

  • oil for deep-frying

Method

 
Cut the French loaf into 1 cm thick slices. Blend the condensed milk and water in a mixing bowl. Whisk the eggs in another bowl and blend the sugar and cinnamon in a third. Dip the slices of bread in the condensed milk mixture and then in the whisked egg. Heat sufficient oil in a saucepan for deep-frying and fry the bread until golden brown. Drain on paper towelling and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Blend all the ingredients for the syrup in a saucepan. Bring to the boil while stirring continuously and boil for 5 minutes. Pour over the bread and serve with coffee.
