Potato Gratin

    g
    potatoes, peeled and cut into 5mm slices
  • 10
    ml
    sunflower oil
  • 1
    large onion, sliced
  • 4
    cloves garlic, crushed
  • 30
    ml
    fresh origanum and thyme, finely chopped
  • 175
    g
    Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 125
    ml
    cream
 

Method

Oven temperature: 200°C

1. Parboil the potato slices for about three minutes, then drain and cover with cold water to cool.
2. Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the onion until golden. Remove from the heat and set aside.
3. Sprinkle some of the garlic over the base of a greased ovenproof dish, then cover it with a layer of potatoes. Season well with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Top with a layer of chopped herbs, onion, cheese and garlic.
4. Repeat the layers, ending with a cheese layer. Mix the cream with 50ml water and pour over the potatoes. Bake in a preheated oven for 45 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
