Pork chops in oyster sauce

This recipe is quick and easy to prepare when entertaining unexpected guests.

Ingredients

 
  • 15
    ml
    sunflower oil
  • 4-6
    pork chops, defrosted
  • 10
    ml
    sesame oil (or sunflower oil)
  • 1
    small bunch spring onions, sliced
  • 2
    cloves
    garlic, crushed
  • 2
    ml
    Chinese five-spice powder
  • 2
    ml
    Sichuan peppercorns (optional)
  • 125
    ml
    oyster sauce
  • 30
    ml
    dry sherry
  • 1
    packet tenderstem broccoli, sliced
  • 1
    red or yellow pepper, seeded and sliced
  • Chinese noodles, to serve
  • Toasted sesame seeds, to garnish

Method

 
Heat the sunflower oil and fry the pork chops over a high heat until browned. Remove the chops from the pan and set aside.

Add the sesame oil to the pan and add the spring onions, garlic, five-spice powder and Sichuan pepper and stir-fry for a minute. Add the oyster sauce, sherry, broccoli, sweet pepper and 30 to 50ml water and stir-fry and simmer for five minutes, until the broccoli is tender.

Add the pork chops to the pan and heat through. Serve on a bed of cooked noodles. To garnish, sprinkle with the toasted sesame seeds.
