Ingredients (16)

TART
625.00 ml flour — cake
10.00 ml Baking powder
360.00 ml castor sugar
2.00 ml salt
300.00 g butter — soft
1.00 eggs — whisked
2.00 pears — peeled, cored and diced
250.00 ml macadamia nuts — chopped
200.00 g dark chocolate — roughly chopped
1.00 orange — zest only
SAUCE
200.00 g dark chocolate — chopped
200.00 ml cream
30.00 g butter
60.00 ml coffee — prepared strong
5.00 ml cardamom — pods, crushed
10.00 ml lemon juice

Method:

TART
Preheat the oven to 180 °C and grease a 22 cm diameter cake tin.
Place the flour, baking powder, castor sugar, salt, butter and egg in a food processor and blend for about one minute to bind the ingredients. (Alternatively use an electric beater.)
Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl and add the pears, nuts, chocolate and orange rind. Stir until evenly mixed.
Press the mixture into the greased cake tin and bake for one hour.
Leave the cake to cool slightly before turning out.
SAUCE
Place all the ingredients in the top of a double boiler and heat, stirring until smooth.
Remove from the heat and keep warm.
Drizzle the sauce over the sliced tart and serve with whipped cream.
