Ouma Tossie's spinach bredie

    large onions, sliced into rings
  • oil

    mince
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 3
    potatoes, peeled and cut into pieces
  • 500

    spinach (well rinsed and stems removed), shredded
  • 50
    ml
    margarine or butter
  • 50
    ml
    cake flour
  • 400
    ml
    milk
  • 250
    ml
    grated Cheddar cheese
 

Method

 
Sauté the onion in a little oil until soft. Add the mince and fry until done but not brown. Season. Boil the potatoes in salted water until soft, drain and add to the mince. Steam the spinach for a few minutes until soft. Mix with the mince mixture and tum into a dish. Make a cheese sauce using the margarine, cake flour, milk and grated Cheddar cheese. Spoon over the mince mixture and place in a heated oven for a few minutes until the dish is heated through. Serve with rice and a salad. Serves 4.
