Ouma Martie's banana dessert

    g
    sugar
  • 500
    ml
    water
  • 15
    ml
    lemon juice
  • 5
    ml
    grated lemon rind
  • 4
    bananas, sliced
  • 20
    ml
    custard powder
 

Method

 
Blend the sugar, water, lemon juice and rind a saucepan. Heat slowly, stirring continuously until the sugar has dissolved. Add the banana slices and heat until they are soft but still retain their shape. Blend the custard powder with a little water and add to the banana mixture. Heat until the mixture comes the boil and thickens. Stir continuously. If you prefer a slightly thicker dessert, simply add more custard powder. Serve hot or cold with a scoop of plain yoghurt. Serves 4-6.
