Oriental sweet 'n sour chicken

    chicken breast fillets, cut into strips

    soy sauce
  • 2
    ml
    sambal oelek
  • oil
  • 1
    large red pepper, seeded and diced
  • 1
    large green pepper, seeded and diced
  • 440
    g
    pineapple chunks, drained and syrup reserved
  • 15
    ml
    honey
  • 30
    ml
    white grape vinegar
  • 30
    ml
    tomato sauce
  • 15
    ml
    each, cornflour and water, mixed to a paste
  • salt
 

Method

 
Season the chicken fillet strips with soy sauce and sambal oelek. Fry in oil until brown on the outside. Reduce heat and add the diced peppers. Stir-fry until tender and glossy. Add the pineapple chunks and 200 ml (4/5 c) of the reserved syrup. Add the honey, vinegar and tomato sauce and thicken the sauce with a cornflour paste if desired. Season with salt if necessary. Serve with pasta.
