Oranges or quinces in spicy syrup

  • 375
    ml
    sugar
  • 500
    ml
    water
  • 4
    star aniseed
  • 1
    clove
  • 1
    cinnamon stick
  • 2
    oranges or quinces, skinned and sliced
 

Method

 
Mix the sugar and water in a saucepan and add the aniseed, cloves and cinnamon. Heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved and bring to the boil. Add the oranges or quinces and simmer until the fruit is tender and glossy but still whole. Serve with rice pudding (see recipe).
