    mustard seeds

    cayenne pepper

    brown sugar

    red wine

    ml
    red wine vinegar

    balsamic vinegar

    water
  • 1
    bay leaf
 

Method

50 minutes
 
Heat olive oil in a pot and add mustard seeds.
When the seeds begin to pop, add onions and chilli (seeded and sliced) and sauté for 5 minutes, then add brown sugar and water and cook for 15 minutes.
Add red wine, both vinegars and the bay leaf and cook on a low heat for 15-30 minutes, until the onions have caramelised and sauce is thick and brown.
Store in a jar in the fridge and eat hot or cold.
Add more chilli if you want it hotter.
