Pour 500 ml water into a large saucepan and bring to the boil.
Put a metal colander in the pot to serve as a steamer.
Gradually knead the maize meal into the dough.
Put the dough in the colander over the boiling water, reduce the heat, cover and steam for 1 hour.
Serve the bread with butter and homemade jam.
Makes 1 medium loaf.
