Malay meatballs

Ingredients

  • MEATBALLS
  • 1
    onion, finely chopped
  • 4
    green chillies (optional)
  • 25
    ml
    grated fresh ginger root
  • 4
    cloves garlic, crushed
  • oil
  • 1
    kg
    mince
  • 3
    ml
    turmeric
  • 5
    ml
    garam masala
  • 25
    ml
    lemon juice
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • SAUCE
  • 2
    cardamom seeds
  • 2
    pieces
    stick cinnamon
  • 410
    g
    tomato and onion mix
 

Method

20-30 min
 
Sauté the onion, chillies, ginger and garlic in a little oil till the onion is soft. Remove from the heat and cool. Add the mince and seasonings and mix. Shape the mixture into fairly small meatballs. Heat a little oil in a pan and fry the meatballs till brown on the outside. Remove from the pan. Stir-fry the cardamom seeds and stick cinnamon for about 1 minute in a little heated oil. Add the tomato and onion mix and simmer gently. Add the meatballs and simmer till done. Serves 6-8.
