Ingredients (15)

250.00 g lentils — green
500.00 ml water
5.00 ml salt
500.00 g mutton, cubed — lean
125.00 g mixed vegetables
1.00 potatoes — peeled and grated
7.00 ml sugar
1.00 ml freshly ground black pepper
5.00 ml vinegar
5.00 ml brandy
5.00 ml garlic — salt
5.00 ml dried mixed herbs
1.00 soup powder — mutton and vegetable
2.00 soup powder — tomato
5.00 meat spice

Method:

Wash and sort the lentils. Boil the lentils with salt for about 20 minutes or until soft. Drain. Meanwhile heat a little oil in a heavy-based pan and brown the mutton a few pieces at a time. Return all the pieces to the pan, add enough water to cover and cook with lid on for 40 minutes. Add the lentils, mixed vegetables and grated potatoes. Simmer for 15 minutes.
Add the spices, sugar, vinegar and brandy. Mix the soup powders with a little water to make a watery paste. Add to the stew, stir in and cook to thicken.
Serves: 4-6
