Mix the flour, yeast and salt, stir in the onion and cheese.
Add the oil and syrup, and then the water.
Mix together, and turn out onto a floured surface.
Knead until smooth and elastic, working in a little more flour if needed.
Place the dough in an oiled dish and set aside somewhere warm to rise until double in size.
Tip out and knead again, just a little to knock it back.
Divide your dough into 8 even balls, and place on a greased baking tray.
Mix together all the ingredients very well, shape into even sized patties.
Fry in a little oil until done the way you like them.
Serve with roasted vegetables instead of fries.
