Ingredients (18)

1.00 onion — chopped
1.00 garlic — cloves, diced
1.00 fresh chillies — deseeded, strips
1.00 eggs
10.00 ml cumin — ground
fresh parsley
salt and freshly ground black pepper
450.00 g mince — minced
30.00 ml fresh chillies — 573
SPICY TOMATO SAUCE
410.00 g tomatoes — chopped
2.00 fresh chillies — seeded and finely chopped
30.00 ml fresh chillies — 573
15.00 ml castor sugar
5.00 ml dried oregano
2.00 ml salt and freshly ground black pepper
15.00 ml vinegar — balsamic
fresh coriander
30.00 ml tomato sauce

Method:

Place onion, garlic and chilli in a food processor and process to a paste. Add egg, cumin, parsley and 5 ml each salt and pepper, and process again to blend well. Add meat and process together to a roughish paste.
Roll into small balls and fry in olive oil over medium heat until evenly browned.
Serve with spicy tomato sauce. Alternatively, serve the meatballs on their own and keep the sauce separate for dipping.
SPICY TOMATO SAUCE: Combine all ingredients, except coriander and tomato sauce, and simmer for 20 minutes until thick.
Add coriander and tomato sauce, and allow to simmer gently for 5 minutes until cooked through.
