    golden syrup
  • 125
    g
    butter, melted
  • 30
    ml
    milk
  • 1
    egg
  • 750
    ml
    cake flour
  • 3
    ml
    salt
  • 5
    ml
    bicarbonate of soda
  • 15
    ml
    ground ginger
  • 125
    ml
    brown sugar
  • selection of sweets for decorating
  • butter icing
 

Method

 
Preheat the oven to 180 °C and grease a large baking sheet.
Beat together the syrup, butter, milk and egg.
Sift together the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl, add the egg mixture and mix to form a smooth dough.
Cover the dough with clingfilm and refrigerate until firm.
Roll out the dough to a thickness of 2 mm and cut out the gingerbread men or biscuits.
Use the leftover dough to make interesting shapes.
Arrange on the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes or until brown.
Cool on the baking sheet for about 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.
Decorate with sweets secured with butter icing.
