Fried split pea cakes (Parippu vada)

  • 250
    g
    split peas
  • 60
    ml
    chopped onion
  • 30
    ml
    finely grated fresh ginger
  • 15
    ml
    chopped green chillies
  • 15
    ml
    chopped curry leaves
  • 5
    ml
    chilli powder
  • salt to taste
  • oil for deep-frying
 

Method

 
Soak the split peas for 1 1/2 hours.
Drain and process them in a food processor to form a fairly coarse paste.
Add the remaining ingredients except the oil.
Shape the mixture into fairly flat cakes and deep-fry in hot oil until golden brown on both sides.
Serve lukewarm with chilli jam or sauce.
