Dumplings with apple sauce

    quantity basic dumpling dough
  • 1
    cooking apple, cored and sliced
  • butter
  • 250
    apple sauce
  • 150
    melted butter
  • butter and icing sugar for sprinkling on top


Preheat the oven to 180 ºC (350 ºF). Spray a 20 x 20 cm cake tin with non-stick spray. Prepare the dough as described in the basic recipe. Divide the dough in half and roll into two uniform rolls on a floured surface. Cut each roll into 10 pieces. Roll each piece into a small ball. Dip each ball in melted butter and pack tightly in the prepared tin. Cover with plastic wrap and leave to rise for about 40 minutes in a warm place. Bake for about 30-40 minutes or until done. Brush the dumplings with melted butter and sprinkle with icing sugar as soon as they come out of the oven. Prepare the apple sauce by stir-frying the apple slices in a pan with a little heated butter until just tender. Add the apple sauce and bring to the boil. Serve the dumplings with the sauce. Makes 20 dumplings.
