Sift all dry ingredients into a bowl.
Cut margarine into blocks and rub into flour.
Beat egg and 1/2 the water together.
Make a well in the center of the flour and slowly add in the liquid.
Gradually add in the rest of the water, mixing until you have a thick cookie dough. You might not need all of the water.
Cover with plastic wrap and let the dough rest for 20min.
Roll pieces of dough into about golf ball size rounds. The more you roll, the stickier the dough gets. Don't worry. Put them on some wax paper. Just before frying, give them a quick roll to neaten the sides again.
Heat your oil to medium high. If its too hot, the center won't cook.
Slowly add the doughnut bits, careful not to splash oil. Fry until both sides are browned. Drain on paper towel.
While still warm, toss the doughnuts in a bit of cinnamon and sugar.
