Method

 
Preheat the oven to 180 ºC (350 ºF). Grease a 23 x 23 cm cake tin with margarine. Mix all the ingredients for the topping until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Set aside. Stir together the cake flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. Add the bran cereal and mix well. Set aside. Beat the margarine and sugar together until light and creamy. Add the eggs one by one, beating well after each addition. Stir in the yoghurt and mix well. Add the cake flour mixture and blend well. Turn half the batter into the prepared cake tin. Sprinkle half the dates, walnuts and the topping mixture over the batter in the tin. Turn the remaining batter into the tin and sprinkle with the rest of the dates, walnuts and topping mixture. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until done. Serve hot or cold. Makes a medium-sized cake.
