Ingredients (16)

Curried meatballs:
1 kg beef mince
6 bread — white, slices
1 onion — medium, grated
2 tsp salt
2 tsp sugar
fresh coriander — chopped
lemon — zest and juice
2 tsp curry powder
Banana and onion relish
2 onion — large, peeled and thinly sliced
1 fresh ginger — thumb size, peeled and julienned
2 tsp curry powder
1/2 tsp turmeric
2 Tbs vinegar — white wine or pineapple
vegetable oil
salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 bananas — peeled and sliced

Method:

Curried meatballs
Soak the bread in water.
When the bread is completely drenched, squeeze
out the water and mix with all the other ingredients.
Form meatballs
and fry in vegetable oil until cooked.

Banana and Onion Relish

Heat the oil in a pan and sauté the onions and ginger with the curry
powder and the turmeric.
The onions must be soft, but still hold their
texture.
Add the sugar and the vinegar and let the relish cook until the
liquid is all gone. This should take 1-2 minutes.
Taste and season.
Add the
sliced bananas and let it just stand for a while so that the flavors can
infuse the bananas. Do not cook the bananas.

Serve on a slice bread with fresh rocket
and watercress and a helping of parsnip crisps on the side.
