Preheat oven to 200 °C. Grease a deep, square 20 cm baking pan or cast-iron saucepan.
In a small bowl, combine maize meal and milk and allow to stand for five minutes.
In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
Mix in the maize meal mixture, eggs, oil and creamed sweetcorn until smooth.
Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the centre of the corn bread comes out clean.
