Coloured popcorn

    ml
    butter
  • 750
    ml
    sugar
  • 125
    ml
    water
  • yellow, red and/or green or blue food colouring
  • 500
    g
    popcorn kernels
  • oil
 

Method

 
Pop the mealies in oil in a heavy-based saucepan or in a popcorn maker. Divide the popcorn into three bowls (not plastic). Place the butter, sugar and water in a microwaveproof dish and microwave on 100 per cent power until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture begins to bubble slightly. Stir occasionally. Divide the mixture into three and colour each third with a few drops food colouring. Pour one colour over each third of popcorn, mixing until the popcorn is well coated. Stir occasionally until dry.
