    margarine

    warm milk (more or less, depending on gluten content of flour)
  • 1
    beaten egg and a little extra for brushing,
  • chopped almonds or poppy seeds
 

Method

 
Preheat oven to 180 ºC. Mix the cinnamon, allspice, flour, salt, castor sugar, and yeast together. Melt the margarine in the milk and add the beaten egg. Add to the flour mixture and knead for about 5 minutes until the dough becomes elastic. Allow to rise until double its size in a well greased bowl covered with clingwrap (about 2 1/2 hours). Knock down and shape into 2 breads or braids or rings. Brush with a little melted margarine to ensure a soft crust and bake in the preheated oven until golden brown. When ready to slice, serve with margarine and your favourite jam.
