Chocolate pear pudding

Method

Preheat oven to 180 ºC. Combine the sauce ingredients in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Simmer for 5 minutes. Pour into a greased ovenproof dish. Sift the flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa together. Add nuts. Beat egg and sugar together until light. Add butter, milk and vanilla essence. Fold into flour mixture and pour on to sauce. Arrange pears, hollow side down, on the chocolate mixture. Bake in the oven for 35 minutes. Serve with whipped cream or custard. Serves 8.
