Chocolate Horlicks brownies

A lovely twist on the classic brownie recipe.

Ingredients

 
  • 200
    g
    dark chocolate - chopped
  • 125
    butter (unsalted)
  • 180
    g
    brown sugar or castor sugar
  • 120
    g
    self-raising flour
  • 150
    g
    pecan nuts or walnuts - chopped
  • 10
    ml
    vanilla essence
  • 60
    g
    Horlicks Regular, Light or Chocolate
  • 60
    g
    cocoa powder
  • 3
    eggs
  • extra dark chocolate for decorating

Method

 
Preheat the oven to 160°C.

Melt the chocolate and butter over simmering water or in the microwave oven on Medium (50% power) for 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in the sugar, vanilla essence and eggs. Mix well

In a separate bowl, sift the Horlicks, flour and cocoa powder, then add the nuts.

Add the dry ingredients to the chocolate mixture and stir well. Pour the mixture into a lined 28cm x 18cm pan.

Bake for 25-30 minutes. Leave in the pan to cool. Melt the extra dark chocolate and drizzle over the cooled brownies to decorate.
Alternatively you can dust the brownies with icing sugar

As a dessert option, serve warm with ice cream.
