Chewy treacle brownies

    flour
  • 3

    baking powder
  • 2
    ml
    salt
  • 150
    g
    dark chocolate
  • 60
    g
    butter or margarine
  • 2
    eggs
  • 60
    ml
    treacle
  • 5
    ml
    vanilla essence
  • 250
    ml
    chopped mixed nuts (optional)
 

Method

 
1. Preheat oven to 180 ºC. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into a medium-sized bowl. 2. Place chocolate and butter into a small saucepan, and melt together over a low heat. Once completely melted, beat in the eggs, vanilla and treacle. 3. Pour the chocolate mixture into the dry ingredients, add the nuts, and mix well. Spread into a lightly greased 20 cm square baking tin. Bake for 20 minutes. (If a less chewy texture is required, bake an extra 5 to 10 minutes.)
