Ingredients (5)

500.00 g flour — cake
250.00 g butter — softened
250.00 g cheddar cheese — grated
1.00 eggs — jumbo
30.00 ml water

Method:

Preheat oven to 180 ºC.
Place flour in a bowl and rub in butter with your fingertips until mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in grated cheese.
Beat egg and water and work into flour mixture with your fingertips to make a dough.
Shape dough into a ball and roll out into a 30 x 24 cm rectangle. Cut lengthways into 12 strips, then fold into shapes, or leave cheese straws straight.
Place on a greased baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden.
Remove from oven, allow to cool and serve, or store in an airtight tin for up to 1 week.
